It was a great pleasure for me to illustrate the legendary Britpop band Blur for the Rolling Stone Germany review of their new album "The Ballad of Darren".

In my research for the concept, I found out some interesting background information, such as that Darren is the band's longtime bodyguard, and that the cover artwork is a photo of Scotland's Gourock outdoor pool. Putting these components together creates a diffuse mood that I think makes you curious as to what it's all about. The review is about Blur reuniting after eight years, about who they were, and about finding out who they are now.

“I tend to assign Julia Kerschbaumer for particularly tricky tasks, as she is prepared to go the extra mile to master them. She works conscientiously, researches extensively and, even under time pressure, creates unique three-dimensional spaces that are visually enthralling.”
